    Term 1

    Settling In

What a fantastic start to the term for Scottish Owls! The children have settled beautifully into their classroom routines, growing in confidence, independence and friendships.

This term has been full of exciting opportunities to explore and learn through play. Our favourite areas have been construction, where children enjoy building imaginative structures and developing teamwork skills, and painting, where they express their creativity and experiment with colours.

We are incredibly proud of how well everyone has settled in!

    Phonics

Our Scottish Owls have made a wonderful start to their phonics journey! The children have been enthusiastically learning to recognise letters, identify their sounds and practise correct letter formation.

They particularly enjoy forming letters using pencils and tracing them in sensory trays, developing their fine motor skills and early writing confidence. It has been lovely to see them recognising familiar letters and sounds around the classroom and making such fantastic progress!

    Mathematics

Maths has been full of fun, movement and hands-on learning! This term, we have focused on counting accurately to 10, recognising numbers and exploring quantities through songs, dancing and practical activities.

A firm favourite has been our number car park game, where children match toy cars to numbered parking spaces. They also love building towers with blocks, counting as they build and comparing quantities.

It has been wonderful to see their confidence and enthusiasm for numbers grow through play!

    English

Our Scottish Owls have loved bringing stories to life through imaginative play, role-play and sensory experiences while developing their listening, communication and storytelling skills.

We thoroughly enjoyed exploring ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen, acting out the adventure, joining in with repeated phrases and exploring sensory activities.

Another favourite has been ‘Mr Gumpy’s Outing’ by John Burningham. The children enjoyed pretending to be different characters, recreating scenes in sensory trays and building their own boats using a variety of materials.

These exciting experiences have encouraged creativity, language development and a growing love of stories!
