  • Keeping a Healthy Mind - African Elephants

    Fri 18 Jan 2019

African Elephants celebrated Jubilee University Week by focusing on KEEPING A HEALTHY MIND.
The class welcomed a number of visitors and they explored the different ways to achieve this.
This included a very special visitor called Courtney Tulloch, a British elite international gymnast. Representing England, he is the Commonwealth Games Champion on rings, and a silver medallist on vault.
Pupils were inspired by him and asked some thought provoking questions.
Throughout the week, other specialists were invited in. A guidance counsellor, as well as a Pilates instructor worked with the pupils on different strategies and techniques in keeping the mind healthy.

  • Equipped for Life learning - Jubilee University

    Fri 18 Jan 2019

As part of our Equipped for Life learning, our theme for Jubilee University during Term 3 was ‘Healthy Living.’ Over the course of the week, Canadian Bears took part in many activities, exploring how we can lead a healthy lifestyle. On a daily basis, we challenged ourselves to:

    • Drink 6-8 glasses
    • Eat a healthy breakfast
    • Eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables
    • Be active for at least 60 minutes
    • Make one positive change

We kept a record of our achievements and tried to improve or beat our previous days’ results.

We also took part in the 15m Bleep test. Most of us could only reach level 2 or 3 on the first day but by the end of the week we were beating our scores! Maxwell made it to level 9! A very impressive achievement!

We also had Warburton’s in to teach us about food safety and how bread is made. They taught us about Mr and Mrs Warburton and how they created their brand. We got to make yummy sandwiches too!

  • Carols Around the Tree and The Christmas Fayre

    Fri 14 Dec 2018

This year ‘Carols around the Christmas Tree’ opened with a whole school, hearty rendition of ‘Oh Holy Night’, setting the festive atmosphere for all the pupils and their families. All classes performed their own special song, which they had been busy rehearsing throughout Advent. Years 1 and Reception gave a moving performance of ‘We want to tell you a story’, whilst Year 2 provided a Christmas tableau of the Nativity, with readings from the Christmas Story. The children had worked so hard to learn all of their lines, and delivered them to perfection, reading clearly and fluently, whilst also managing a touching rendition of Little Donkey.

The upper school sang beautifully, delivering traditional carols ‘Away in a Manger’ (Canadian Bears) and ‘Whilst Shepherds Watched their Flocks’ (American Eagles). Year 4&5 provided a poignant version of ‘Do You Hear What I Hear?’ before a rousing chorus of ‘We Wish You a  Merry Christmas’ invited all pupils, staff and parents to close the performance. Thank you to everyone involved, and we hoped you all enjoyed it as much as we did.

A fantastic festive Fayre was held after the ‘Carols Around the Tree’ on the final Friday afternoon. The Fundraising Team served up tasty treats, warming drinks and novelty items for all of the family, whilst also organising the Christmas raffle with plenty of presents for everybody. It was very well attended by pupils, staff and family, and raised a very successful £710.58. A huge thank you to is offered up to everyone in the Fundraising Team, for their efforts at the Fayre and across the whole school year.

  • Whole School Trip to the Pantomime

    Thu 13 Dec 2018

The whole school went on a trip to the local Hazlitt Theatre to see the pantomime ‘Aladdin’. The children experienced the 63 year old theatre with their peers and teachers and enjoyed a traditional pantomime with all the favourite characters from Aladdin. The story saw Aladdin journey to find Princess Jasmine using his trusty lamp and the Genie to help him; with of course the typical dancing and singing involved in a traditional pantomime. The children enjoyed joining in with the singing, dancing and audience participation that is encouraged at the pantomime.

  • Year 3 Scrumdiddlyumptious Tea Party

    Tue 11 Dec 2018

This term’s topic was Scrumdiddlyumptious and the wonderful world of food. The children’s hard work culminated in a tasty topic day, when they all created a tea party, and invited along some special guests. The children made sandwiches, frosted flake cakes, broccoli and cheese muffins, fruit kebabs and others treats and drinks. For the finale, both classes sang carols for their guests,  providing festive entertainment for their fantastic feast. The children had so much fun creating the invitations for the day,  designing the menu, cooking up the treats and finally sharing in the celebration of their hard work!

    What a scrumdiddlyumptious delight!

  • EYFS Trip to Forest School

    Thu 06 Dec 2018

English Lions had a fantastic day exploring the woods as part of their ‘Woodland’ topic. They warmed up by the fire and enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate drink and toasted marshmallows. A highlight of the trip was going on a bear hunt and finding a life sized bear in his den! English Lions also had a great time climbing trees and carefully balancing on logs. They had such a good time they are already asking when they can go back!

    Wed 05 Dec 2018

On Thursday 29th November, KS2 took part in a football tournament at Greenfields Community Primary School. It was our first outing, as a school, to a pre-organised football tournament. All of the teams we played consisted of Years 5 and 6 pupils; our team was made up of pupils from Years 4 and 5. Although we didn’t win the tournament, we played the game amazingly! Our Man of the Match for this tournament was Leon!

    Mon 26 Nov 2018

Today we went to Greenfields Primary School for a KS1 Football Tournament. We took 5 year 1 and 5 year 2 pupils, some of which had never played in a Tournament before! Every child gave every ounce of energy and effort that they had despite the freezing temperatures. The children showed perseverance and courage whilst playing against teams who were older than them and we even won one of our games!

Well done to all of the children involved – Zara, Antonio, Levi, Mia, Fraser (Y1) Billy, Joel, Calista, Troy, Rose (Y2).

  • Children in Need - 16th November 2018

    Tue 20 Nov 2018

Friday 16th November was BBC Children in Need. To support this superb charity the children dressed up as what they would like to be when they are older. This supported the BBC theme of ‘Do your Thing’ as well as helping us to think about our future and the future of the children that the charity supports. Children discussed what they wanted to be when they are older and we had some amazing costumes - please see below for just a few! We learnt about the children that may be less fortunate than ourselves and how important it is that all children have a right to be safe, happy and be able to achieve everything that they are capable of. We raised a total of £124.24. We thank all of our families for helping us to support this charity.

  • Poetry Day - 9th November 2018

    Fri 09 Nov 2018

Jubilee Primary School celebrated poetry with a day of activities and a fantastic recital. In class, children examined language techniques as well as performance poetry giving them a better understanding of different forms of poetry, as well as discussing words and phrases that capture a reader’s imagination and interest. Children across the school then began our termly poetry recital by performing poems that they had learnt in class during Term One to the rest of the school.  We saw amazing performances from all classes, including a poem about beginning school from our confident reception class to a moving performance by African Elephants of ‘In Flanders Field’. Children across the school showed their skill in using expression, intonation and movement to fully entertain the engaged audience. The children explained their understanding of the poems they recited and the poetic techniques that they had learned, including the use of alliteration and onomatopoeia.
